Asset Recovery

Retiring hardware shouldn't cost you anything.

Sterro Tech Group picks up retired laptops, tablets, and PCs from schools, businesses, hospitals, and law firms across the Kansas City area — always free, with certified data destruction on every device. We determine whether your equipment is worth purchasing as soon as we learn what you're retiring, before pickup ever happens; anything that isn't purchasable is recycled through our certified downstream vendors.

Who we service

If your organization retires computers, we probably work with you.

We regularly pick up from four kinds of organizations across the Kansas City area — often on a recurring basis as equipment ages out.

Education

Schools & districts

End-of-lifecycle student and staff laptops, classroom desktops, and retired lab equipment.

Corporate

Businesses & offices

Office refreshes, relocations, and closures leaving behind laptops, desktops, and peripherals.

Healthcare

Hospitals

Retired workstations and devices that require documented, compliant data destruction.

Legal

Law firms

Client-sensitive equipment where the data needs to be destroyed and documented, not just discarded.

How the cost works

Free to recover. Sometimes, we pay you instead.

Every pickup is free, with no minimum or maximum quantity — that part never changes. What can change is whether the equipment is worth buying, which we determine upfront, when you first tell us what you're retiring.

Standard outcome

We pick it up, you pay nothing.

Most retired equipment is old enough that its only remaining value is responsible recovery. In that case, we collect it, destroy the data, and send it to a certified downstream recycling vendor — plus send you a certificate. No cost, no exceptions.

When it applies

If it's still worth something, we'll say so upfront.

Because we also distribute wholesale hardware, we can usually tell whether retired laptops, tablets, or PCs still have resale value just from what you describe when you reach out — before we ever schedule the pickup. If that's the case, we'll make an offer to purchase, on top of the free pickup and certified data destruction.

On every pickup, no exceptions

Documentation built for compliance, not just peace of mind.

Whether it's one laptop or a full IT closet, every drive is wiped or physically destroyed before it leaves our hands, and every pickup is documented with a certificate. Equipment we've identified as refurbishable is resold; anything that isn't is sent to a certified downstream recycling vendor — something you can hand directly to a compliance officer, auditor, or board.

The process

Four steps, start to certificate.

01

You tell us what you're retiring

Device types and approximate quantity. Based on that description, we'll let you know right away if it's something we'd like to purchase.

02

Free pickup, scheduled

We collect on-site from your school, office, hospital, or firm — no cost, any volume, whether or not we're purchasing it.

03

Data destruction

Every drive is wiped or physically destroyed to eliminate recoverable data, regardless of what happens to the device next.

04

Certificate, and payment if applicable

You get a data destruction certificate for your records. If we identified purchasable equipment at step one, payment is arranged at pickup; anything non-refurbishable goes to a certified downstream recycling vendor.

Common questions

What clients usually want to know before scheduling.

Q. Is there a minimum quantity for a pickup?

No. We'll come out for a single laptop or a full IT closet — the pickup is free either way.

Q. How do we know our data is actually gone?

Every drive is wiped or physically destroyed before anything else happens to the device, and you receive a data destruction certificate documenting it.

Q. What if we're not sure whether our equipment has resale value?

That's fine — just describe what you're retiring when you reach out. We'll tell you upfront whether we'd like to purchase it, before any pickup is scheduled.

Q. Can we schedule recurring pickups?

Yes. Schools, hospitals, and offices with equipment aging out on a regular cycle often set up recurring pickups with us.

Q. What happens to monitors, keyboards, and other peripherals?

Laptops, tablets, and desktop PCs are our focus. Ask us about peripherals when you reach out — we'll let you know directly.

Have equipment ready to retire?

Schedule a free pickup — we'll handle the rest.
